ABOUT
Joseph Catalano (b. 2001, Toronto, ON), often working under the name Joe Cata, is an interdisciplinary artist focusing on image- and publication-making. He holds a BFA in Photography from OCAD University. Cata has exhibited in solo and group shows at She Said Gallery and Gallery 1313, and has been featured in Toronto's Star Magazine. He also self-published his 240-page photobook What We Do (2020–2024), an archival project spanning five years.
In his practice, Joe preserves everyday moments and relationships that shape his world, capturing portraits of friends and loved ones, observations from the city where he grew up, nightlife, youth culture, and experiences from traveling. His photographic archive acts as a cultural time capsule, revealing the richness and nuance of human experience within a particular place and time.
Joe is currently expanding his practice through editorial work and developing What We Do as an ongoing conceptual framework in his upcoming magazine project, What We Do Mag.
