BIO
Joseph Catalano (Joe Cata) is a Toronto-based image-maker and publisher whose practice returns to the inherent value of lived experience. Through photography and publication-making, he builds a living record of the people, places, and experiences that surround him.
His photographic library, The What We Do Archive, forms the backbone of his practice. At OCAD University, Cata shaped the Archive into a conceptual body of work over four years, culminating in the self-published 240-page photobook What We Do (2020–2024) and a BFA in Photography with Distinction.
Cata has presented solo exhibitions at She Said Gallery and OCAD University, and participated in group exhibitions at Gallery 1313, Coles Art Market, and The Gift Shop at Stackt Market. His work has been featured in the independent Toronto publication Star Magazine.
What We Do Mag Issue 1—The Travel Edition is forthcoming, uniting Cata's photographic and editorial sensibilities with written storytelling for the first time.
